Coursework Set Brief
Candidates taking Media Studies in A levels have to complete a specific task each year. The first year requires them to create a film opening sequence of no longer than 2:30 minutes. This sequence is to be created along with the group members who in turn are to be assigned specific roles e.g director, cameraman, head of editing etc. These members work on their assigned tasks to create a final product that will award each member with the grade that their task deserves.
A range of genres can be chosen for the film opening including action, thriller, science fiction etc. However, it is to be kept in mind that nothing vulgar is shown. More importantly as the openings reveal the big idea of the whole film they should be made in such a way that they grab the audience's attention.
Traditionally, a film opening should include
- the types of characters
- a recognizable setting
- an understandable style
- a conventional narrative
