What is a Film Opening?
A film opening is the film sequence played at the beginning of the film. It is the foundation of the whole film since it sets the mood of the audience as the genre may be revealed during this part of the film. The soundtrack may also be played along with the film title in order to reveal more about the film. It usually shows the audience what exactly is happening before the main plot of the film begins. Hence, it must contain a believable narrative along with an understandable setting of the scenes.
In order to produce a cinematic and strong film opening, the director should make sure that it includes :
- the introduction of characters
- establishment of the location
- unfolding of narrative
- creation of enigma
- conventional title for the film
