Narrative

Our story is about a young girl that is going through depression and is all alone in her house. She is shown siting in solitude when a friend of hers calls her to wish her a happy birthday but the main character pushes away her friend. She then goes to sleep and in her dream sees a dark figure in the corner that slowly gets closer and closer to her. This is when she wakes up to the sound of her alarm clock ringing. She is panicking as she goes to the bathroom to wash her face. When she bends to do so the same dark figure from her dream appears in the mirror. The main character lifts up her face to see the reflection of that figure when the camera cuts to black.

Planning : Storyboard

Image
In order to visualise the scenes put together, it is was important to make a storyboard. And so I printed the templates and roughly drew on them with the scene descriptions. This is what I was able to create.

Planning : Equipment

The equipment we need for this project, keeping in mind the budget of our film, include : iPhone 13 pro max iPhone 12 pro iPhone X Boya Microphone Portable LED Light Mono Pod

Planning : Budgeting

We made sure that the film we create was on the lowest budget possible. This was done by borrowing some equipment from a class fellow and our teacher. This included a microphone and LED light. We also did not have any special  props that we needed to spend extra money on. Even the black gown one of our team members, Hannan, was wearing in the film to act as the dark figure was owned by Azwa already. As for the travelling part, everyone’s house was closest to Azwa’s so we were all able to reach there easily.

Key Media Concepts

Media Studies revolves around a set of very simple ideas that, once you understand them, unlock the meaning of the text for you - these are the key concepts. Whether you are analyzing or constructing a media text, you are expected to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the following concepts: institutions - this shows who owns or who developed this specific media text media language - this shows how the media produces meaning or the narrative structure representations - this shows how things, places and people are shown through the media audience - this shows who the media is made for and how they view that media text

Second Discussion with Team

Image
We had a second official team meeting in our school to discuss the narrative and the production roles that would be assigned to each one of us for the upcoming project. These are the pictures of the team from the second team meeting.

Complete Change in Idea

Image
We had a different story previously that we had confirmed from our teacher. Me and Azwa had created its script. Azwa had also created a mood board. Everything was finalised and we all gathered for the first day of our shoot and then the second. We showed a rough cut to our teacher who pointed out many mistakes. We could come up with solutions and continue with it. However, we realised this story was very difficult to create and with the short amount of time left we could to come up with a simple narrative and a basic script. This would ensure we worked more on cinematography and wasted less time. After our teacher confirmed it, we completed our new project with the most planning we could do in the little time because deadlines were approaching. All the planning I have on my blog is related to the final product we created and not the previous one with the script given above.
